Special Interests

While Ellis works integratively, drawing on a range of evidence-based models, he has a particular interest in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which aligns closely with his values of acceptance, compassion, and personal growth. The approach also resonates with his belief in helping people live in line with their values even when life feels difficult.

My Therapeutic Approach and Philosophy

I see therapy as a space to explore and change our relationship with difficult thoughts and feelings, rather than trying to eliminate them. Life inevitably brings both joy and pain; love and loss are, in many ways, two sides of the same coin. My role is to help people make room for their emotional experiences while connecting with what truly matters to them, so they can live in a way that feels more aligned and fulfilling.

I consider that at the heart of good therapy is an open, authentic, and compassionate therapeutic relationship. I believe that meaningful change comes from understanding the individual as a whole, not just their struggles, but their values, stories, and strengths. Together, we explore what keeps certain patterns going and work collaboratively to find new ways forward.

My therapeutic style is reflective and compassionate, and has often been described as calm and thoughtful. I see therapy as a proactive and responsive process, where we flexibly move between ideas and models to make sense of what the individual brings. The therapy space belongs as much to the client as it does to me fostering a shared space for understanding, exploration, and growth.

My work is primarily influenced by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). From ACT, I draw the belief that trying to get rid of uncomfortable thoughts and emotions often makes them louder, instead, we can learn to relate to them differently and act in ways that move us closer to what matters. From CFT, I value the importance of cultivating kindness, courage, and understanding toward ourselves as we navigate life’s challenges.

Above all, I aim to offer therapy that is in service of the person sitting in front of me, which grounded in evidence, guided by compassion, and shaped by what they most need.

Personal

When not in work, Ellis enjoys watching football, playing the piano, and spending time with family and friends. A big part of Ellis’ life is his Bernese Mountain Dog who he enjoys exploring the forest with. His dog serves as a constant reminder to enjoy the little things in life.
